John Horton Conway was once described as a cross between Archimedes, Mick Jagger and Salvador Dali. He was one of the greatest mathematicians of the last 100 years, bringing a sly sense of humor and a compulsion to explain everything about the world to everyone in it. Most widely known for Game of Life, which he developed in the 1960’s, he was not just a great mathematician, through his wildly popular and entertaining lectures, he was a great communicator of math.
